Indianola cyclists will soon be able to hop on the bike trail on the western edge of town and follow it all the way to Carlisle.
Two trail projects on opposite sides of town are scheduled towrap up this month.
The quarter-mile East Hillcrest Trail connectorgives those who want to bike or walk to the Indianola YMCA an option aside from the narrow shoulder along East Hillcrest Avenue.
It extends from North Ninth Streetwest to Vintage Hills and connectsEast Hillcrest Trail to the 11-mile Summerset Trail that runs from Carlisle to Indianola.
Construction on the $151,000trail began last month and could be finished this week, saidDoug Bylund, the city's director of parks and recreation.
“We want to give everybody an opportunity to get there without having to walk or ride their bicycles on the road,” Bylund said.
The connector willprovide walking access to the Vintage Hills retirement community, MercyOne Family Medical Clinic and other businesse
