This May, several plans to make the Corridor more bicycle-friendly are gearing up, including a bike share program and infrastructure changes. However, after Monday's fatal crash between a bicyclist and driver in Johnson County, the Iowa Bicycle Coalition wants both drivers and cyclists to be actively aware of how to safely share the road.

Mark Wyatt, executive director of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, says drivers should treat bicyclists like they do any other vehicle.

"That means passing when safe, slowing down when you encounter a bicyclist going slower than the posted speed limit, and making sure you change lanes when you pass," said Wyatt.

He says bicyclists should be visible and predictable, and use hand signals.
