On July 9 the Waterloo Police Department was called to the intersection of Big Rock Road and US Highway 63 for a motor vehicle accident involving a bicycle around 9:30 p.m.

Authorities found a bicyclist on the northbound side of the road in the grass that appeared to be hit by a car. The cyclist, identified as 57-year-old Sal Locota Bass, said he had high blood pressure which caused him to be dizzy.

Once an ambulance arrived at the scene, authorities made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as 55-year-old Kerri Gamerdinger.

Gamerdinger said she was northbound and didn't see the bike until the last minute because her lights were dim. Gamerdinger said she tried to veer left, but there was traffic.

It was found Gamerdinger hit Locota Bass with her mirror, causing the glass to fall out of the mirror.

The bicyclist was taken to Allen Medical Center by Waterloo Fire for an evaluation.

The condition of the biker is unknown. The driver of the vehicle wasn't hurt in the accident.
