On Wednesday, members of the Council Bluffs Police Department along with the Iowa State Patrol, Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office and the Union Pacific Police Department held a railroad crossing enforcement project in town.
The event was along UP’s main line through Council Bluffs, held in conjunction with the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau and the UP Cares safety initiative.
The enforcement project saw eight crossing violators in vehicles and 10 who were pedestrians on a bicycle, while 20 additional citations were issued throughout the course of the project.
Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are reminded they are required to stop at a railroad crossing when the red lights flash, even if the crossing arms are not down...
