On Tuesday, July 12, several dozen Muscatine area residents met at the Riverview Center to learn about volunteer opportunities related to RAGBRAI. Nichole Sorgenfry of United Way of Muscatine outlined several available positions that are available on July 30, when the annual bike ride ends in Muscatine.

Volunteers are needed to act as greeters. According to Sorgenfry, the job of these volunteers is to act energetic, enthusiastic and welcoming. Greeters will be placed around the dip site and lining Hershey Avenue to welcome riders into town. Greeters can be solo, in groups, or even families. The main focus is to smile, have fun, and encourage the riders along the way.

Volunteers are also need to ride the Muscabus routes that will be taking riders from downtown to MHS, where long-term parking is located. These volunteers will operate as a tour guide of sorts, answering questions about where things are located around town. Sorgenfry says, “This is a great opportunity for someone who cannot be in the heat, as the buses are air-conditioned.”

Residents can sign up to volunteer on volunteermuscatine.org or contact Nichole Sorgenfrey at volunteers@ragbraimuscatine.com, or call 563-263-5963.
