CRESTON, Iowa -- Just under two weeks remain until RAGBRAI comes to Creston for an overnight stop.

The town is busy doing last minute training and recruitment for volunteers needed to make the event a success.

"It’s kind of like the Olympics, that you have to do all of this work, for them it's two weeks for us it's 24 hours, and then they’re gone,” said Ellen Gerharz of the Creston Chamber. “We’re really excited about it to show off southern Iowa, it hasn't been to Creston in 19 years, we wanted to put our best foot forward.”

The Volunteer Committee is chaired by Annette Rice, Warren Woods, and Gary Bucklin. They are looking for people to greet riders as they enter and leave Creston, and also people to work in parking and campgrounds, as well as the beverage garden.

“It's going to be a three long days for people on any committee because we're not going to be just doing our jobs as volunteers, we're going to be helping out other committees,” said Bucklin. “It’s been a ball getting ready for it.”

"Creston is a really good committee for volunteer activism, I know that from being a volunteer director before,” said Rice. “It's been fairly easy to get people, but you know you need lots of folks.”

The Creston RAGBRAI group will be holding a meeting for potential volunteers Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Creston Depot, and another Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Depot.
