The couple, who met almost five years ago at work, is training for a hefty triathlon — a half Ironman, in fact — this summer in Racine, Wis.
“With a busy life, it’s hard to find time to bike, so biking to work helps with that training,” Huber, 27, said.
At this time last year, deterred by the lack of a safe entryway into Alcoa's campus, the couple didn't consider commuting to work on their bikes an option.
Last summer, though, the aluminum manufacturer stepped up when it built a new0.2-mile-long path into the Riverdale plant, which helped it earn a spot on the League of American Bicyclists’ Bicycle Friendly Businesses list.
The league awarded Alcoa last month with a silver designation, marking the institution as the top recognized bicycle-friendly business in the Quad-City area.
