Effective immediately, the Iowa City Bike Library will offer limited retail hours beginning this Saturday, January 24, 2015, from 10 am to 3 pm.

Patrons looking to check-in or check-out bikes can do so during the Saturday hours. After eight years in the same location, the Bike Library has moved to 840 S. Capitol St. in Iowa City. Patrons are asked to enter through the east door off the back parking lot.

Other education and volunteer programs, including Wheely Fun, Rent-a-Bench, and volunteer work nights, will re-start at a later date.

In its first decade, the Bike Library reused or recycled thousands of pounds of metals and rubber that would have been thrown away in the landfill.

The Iowa City Bike Library has reconditioned and checked out more than 1,300 bikes, of which one-third to one-half are returned and then checked out again. In 2013, the all-volunteer Bike Library checked out 248 bikes, 143 of them newly in the system.

Volunteers donated well over 3,000 hours last year. For further information, contact the Bike Library at iowacitybikelibrary@gmail.com or through its Facebook page, Iowa City Bike Library.
