Greenwood Park in Des Moines, Iowa Sunday, October 17 · 1:00pm - 6:00pm Come develop the skills you need to enjoy the fun, beauty, and training benefits of mountain biking at 1pm on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at Greenwood Park in Des Moines, located near the end of 45th Street, just south of Grand Avenue near the old Science Center (and also near the Art Center). The clinic will feature lots of fun and lots of schwag (door prizes) from our great sponsors at Rasmussen Bike Shop, Compass Chiropractic,... Louis Garneau, Jason’s Deli, Gu, and Oakley to be given away at the conclusion of the clinic - and best of all, it’s FREE! All you need is a mountain bike (no hybrids or cross bikes, please), helmet, and a willingness to learn something new! Led by local expert-level riders and coaches from Zoom Performance, this beginner-level clinic (for women only!) will cover all of the basic skills that you need to ride your mountain bike with confidence. Some of the skills that will be covered include cornering, riding over obstacles, climbing and descending, and special avoidance skills like avoiding running into trees, crashing, falling over, running into/over wildlife and running into each other! We will start at the south side of the pond in Greenwood Park. The first part of the clinic will cover the basics in an open grass field. From there we will move to other parts of the park to practice skills on various terrain. Finally, for those who would like, we will continue practicing skills on the trails located near Greenwood Park, stopping often at various obstacles for instruction and practice. The pace of the ride will be slow, so please be patient, and do not worry about getting left behind because nobody will get left behind! Plan for the clinic to last approximately three to four hours. Please bring enough water and food (Power Bars, gels, etc.) to get you through four hours of light aerobic activity. Check the website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IORCA/ or this Facebook page in the days leading up to the event as weather will determine whether this happens when scheduled. If the weather forces us to postpone, we will announce a reschedule date ASAP. A map to the park (titled ‘Old Science Center Trails’) can be found in the ‘Files’ section of the IORCA website.
