179 racers showed up from all over the country to partake in the 2nd annual Oakley Nigh Cap Cross race!

The tight-n-twisty course lived up to it's name as we squeezed out as much mileage as we could with the available land.

Spectators lined one whole side of the course! The Sun Company and The Workshy jammed and Mullets offered up beer and pizza specials all night long.

RESULTS have been uploaded to USA Cycling.

Oakley Night Cap Cross takes place only a couple of minutes from downtown Des Moines at Mullet's on some great under-utilized riverfront property! There is a GREAT view of the Des Moines skyline from the race course and Mullet's two-level deck that offers a great vantage point for watching the races literally inches away from the race course! Read Metromix's review of Mullet's.

2010 was the first year for Oakley Night Cap Cross. WOW - What a night that was!! 160 Racers, 200+ spectators, a band jamming in the MIDDLE of the race course, and a great venue with sweet beer specials and pizza by the slice all night long. It was certainly an electrifying atmosphere!

If you enjoyed last year's event... then you are in for a treat this year! We've had more time to plan, we've switched the race date to a Saturday, we've expanded the race course. We've hired multiple bands, and they will still be jamming on the MIDDLE of the race course. We'll have more lights, We'll have a mini-expo in the parking lot. Bicycle parking will be offered, and we've made it easier to get beer, food food, and spectate!

YOU BEST BE THERE!... or read about it afterward from the cool kids on Facebook...

SUPER SPECTATOR FRIENDLY!!

Watch the race from one of Mullet's two patios, including an elevated deck that offers an amazing view of the Des Moines skyline and action-packed race couse! There is also seating inside. The beer is cold and the food is Great! The bike trail goes right past Mullet's, so Ride your bike down and save the hassles of parking your automobile! Did we mention the race is super spectator friendly?!?

THE BANDS

Oh yeah! What if there was a band playing outside while the races were going on??? OK, What is there were TWO bands playing ??? Oh HELL yeah! We are super stoked to book The Workshy again and The Sun Company as the official bands for the night!

The Workshy is a five piece band from Ames, Iowa that is getting known for their incredibly energetic live shows, and lively musicianship. They played last year's Oakley Night Cap Cross and Main Stage at 80/35 Festival and have invoked a pretty solid following within the Iowa music scene. Follow them on FACEBOOK.
Workshy is playing!

The Sun Company is a four piece band from Ames. You ever wanted to put bacon in a smoothie? Yeah, us neither. Making music to us is like an addict on a binge - once we start we can't stop, and once we're done all we want is more. Check 'em out for some groovin' funk, jazz, blues, and maybe some Jewish traditional music. What will we do next?
The Sun Company is playing!

The bands are presented by Miller Lite & Scheels!

THE LIGHTS

Yes, most of us will be racing in the dark, but the course will be LIT UP with light towers. It won't be as bright as daylight, but it will be enough to get your around the course! Remember RAD stands for Race After Dark! Here is a video of Cross Vegas 2010. No, our race won't be near this lit up, but then again, we ain't racing with the pros either! The course lighting is sponsored by SCHEELS.

MINI-EXPO

We have selected few vendors to be on-hand for the races. They will be announced soon.

BICYCLE PARKING

We plan to have a corral for bicycle parking. It will be a fenced off area and on an honor-system. We will NOT be monitoring this area. We are offering it to alleviate conjestion around the bar and patio areas. Please use this area if you ride your bike down.

ALCOHOL POLICY

Mullet's has been great to work with and is letting us use their grounds, as such we ask that everyone respects their alcohol policy and not bring their own alcohol to the race, however, anything purchased at Mullets may be brought with you anywhere on the grounds. Please don't drive home if you have been drinking. Thanks in advance for your cooperation!

POST-RACE-PARTY

After the races we won't be going anywhere. We're partying at Mullet's and ALL OF YA are invited! the food and drink specials will continue and so will stories!

FROM OUT OF TOWN?

You are so close to downtown Des Moines where there are plenty of great hotels to spend the night. Email us if you need a recommendation. the venue is less than a mile from down town and is totally rideable via trails. We are working on lodging discounts...

PARKING

Parking will be tight. If you are from Des Moines, we'd be most appreciative if you'd ride your bike down, or park across the river at Principal Park and take the pedestrian bridge top Mullets. Please do not leave any belongings unattended. Some of the side streets are not lit very well. Get the drift?
