Description

Road

Distance - 28 miles of rolling hills or 59 miles with more challenging hills

This is a wonderful fund raiser for our local food pantry, Matthew House. One cyclist wrote, "This ride was amazing! Beautiful scenery, very well-marked routes, excellent maps, great start and end environment, amazing food!" Another biker said, "Beautiful route, food everywhere! You nailed it!"

Two route choices: 28 and 59 miles... For our 7th annual Embrace the Hills, ride at your own pace through the Loess Hills of Western Iowa. Our 28-mile route (same route as past years) has mild hills and is very do-able for even the beginner cyclist. The experienced cyclist will find challenges on this route, too. After the 28 miles (and snacks and lunch, etc.) cyclists are invited to continue the ride with an additional 31 miles of more challenging hills.

FREE delicious meals and snacks available from start to finish (at the Mondamin Community Center in Mondamin) and pocket-able proteins available at each rest stop. This fully-supported ride includes SAG wagon and on-site bike mechanic at the Mondamin Community Center.

Registration will open at 8:00 a.m., and the ride officially starts at 9:00 a.m. However, cyclists may begin their ride at any time. Staff will be available from 8:00 a.m. until the last cyclist arrives back at the Mondamin Community Center.

Route

The first loop (for all cyclists) takes a 28-mile rolling-hills route along the Loess Hills toward Pisgah. There is a rest stop at the Brent S. Olson Memorial Visitor Center in Pisgah; Cyclists will receive free pocket-able protein snacks and coffee. From there the route continues up toward Murray Hill, one of the highest points -- and one of the most breath-taking views -- in Harrison County. The route flattens out after Murray Hill for the finish of the loop back to Mondamin. Meals and snacks are available all day at the Mondamin Community Center.

For those who want to continue riding after the first 28 miles, an additional route will cover 31 more miles of more intense hills. This route will take cyclists from the Mondamin Community Center to Magnolia for home-made cinnamon rolls. After Magnolia, bikers will head into Logan. More pocket-able proteins will be available at the Logan Public Library. The route then heads back west, and more free snacks will be offered at the Loess Hills Lavender Farm on the route back to the Mondamin Community Center.
