Tour de Grimes; the 1st Annual Grimes Mayor's Bike Ride is a fun event that will have a 50 mile ride for more serious riders and a shorter ride (all in Grimes) for the more casual riders and families. The event is organized and sponsored by the Rotary Club of West Polk County (http://portal.clubrunner.ca/8304).

50 Mile Ride begins at 8 a.m.
Family Ride begins at 10 a.m.

While not required, we ask that you register if you plan to attend (for planning purposes) at www.GrimesMayorsRide.com.

There is no registration fee for this event, but there are some tremendous Raffle Prizes which can be won ($5/ticket). This event is raising funds for the future Grimes Veterans Memorial, which will be built in the new Heritage at Grimes development (www.heritageatgrimes.com).

The Rotary Club of West Polk County will be serving a meal to ride participants when they return. The Iowa Bicycle Coalition will be hosting a Bike Rodeo too.

The event will start and end at the north end of the Grimes Sports Complex, along the S. James Street bike trail in Grimes, Iowa.

...and a bit of trivia for those of you who may not know. The Mayor of Grimes is Tom Armstrong; the longest tenured Mayor in the Des Moines metropolitan area.

Route

This ride provides for two options.  There is a longer route, nearly 50 miles that will head south out of Grimes first, then north and west to Minburn, then back east through Granger, then finishing at the starting point at the Grimes Sports Complex on S. James Street.

A shorter family friendly route will travel just a few miles through areas in the community of Grimes.

Registration

There is not cost to participate in this ride.  Howerver, it is a fundraiser event being hosted by the Rotary Club of West Polk County, so there will be raffle tickets for sale, providing chances to win a number of substantial prizes.

Funds raised through this event will support the construction of a new Veterans Memorial in a development on the north side of Grimes known as Heritage at Grimes.  Tickets sell for $5 individually, or five can be purchased for $20.
