A hit-and-run accident that killed a man on a bicycle Monday night in Cherokee remains under investigation as local police and Iowa State Patrol seek the driver of the vehicle involved.
Cherokee authorities were tight-lipped about the incident as Chief Nate James said the investigation is ongoing and complex when dealing with a fatality. Such investigations must proceed methodically and legally.
County Attorney Ryan Kolpin also said the incident is under investigation as authorities try to determine how the accident occurred and who was driving the vehicle. Kolpin said a suspect has been been identified, but charges have not been filed as evidence is gathered from the scene and suspect’s vehicle.
The incident reportedly occurred in the vicinity of the Cherokee County Law Enforcement complex.
