The Louisa County Conservation Board and Louisa County Trails Council will hosta ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening of the newly resurfaced Hoover Nature Trailfrom 9to 10:30 a.m. on Sept.26at the trailhead.

The trailhead is located on the far South side of the Louisa County Fairgrounds, west of the Grandstand in Columbus Junction.

This event will celebratethe completion of a $456,000 project on the trail at Chinkapin Bluffs Recreation Area.The project addressed drainage issues along the trail, allowed for a nice crushed lime surface and a concrete trailhead.Theproject was funded with the help of a couple large grants, several smaller grants and donations helped to complete the match.

Theproject began in 2013 with a Visioning Grant from Iowa Living Roadways and Trees Forever which sparked the idea for the railroad theme.The concrete trailhead at the fairgrounds mimics an old round-house turntable where rail cars were switched to various other tracks or turned around.
