The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office says a 39-year-old Waterloo man is now in custody after a deadly crash involving a bicyclist this summer.
The crash happened on July 2 along Highway 218, near Washburn. Connie Inks was killed in the collision.
Now, sheriff’s deputies say Joshua Summerhays is facing a vehicular homicide charge in connection with the deadly crash. They say a “lengthy investigation” showed Summerhays was “distracted by an electronic device at the time of the accident.” A Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation analysis also found Summerhays to allegedly be “under the influence of methamphetamine, opiates, and benzodiazepines” at the time of the crash.
Sheriff’s deputies say Summerhays was arrested on Monday and is in the Black Hawk County Jail ahead of an initial appearance in court.
