Plans for a new bike trail connecting Le Mars, Hinton, Merrill and Sioux City are still on hold.

The PlyWood Trail is a proposed 16 mile bike trail. The trail name is made up of letters from Plymouth and Woodbury County.

Government leaders along the trail are on board with the concept, but some land owners who property sits next the the proposed trail have voiced concerns.

Sioux City Parks and Recreation Director Matt Salvatore says that doesn't mean the project is on hold.

"Preferred route for the city of Sioux City is to tie into the existing Floyd Trail where the new outerbelt Floyd Bridge is being built, right in that area, and follow the river dike out, but that's all part of the due diligence with the route that's being determined at this point if that's going to be feasible or not."

Outdoor enthusiasts not only see the project as great for bikers but communities along the route as well, noting the trail should boost economic development in the area as well.

Salvatore wasn't able to tell us when a final route map might be competed.
