The RASH Ride is a community bicycle ride introduced to the Independence community in June of 2002 to generate more local interest in bicycling. Bill Versluis, an Independence businessman and bicycle enthusiast, approached four local bicycle teams he was familiar with, the Rawhide Riders, Team NAtive, Subtle Savages, and Team FisH, to assist with sponsorship and development of the 50-mile ride over the roadways of Buchanan County, to include rest stops at restaurants and bars along the way. The name R A S H comes from adopting one letter from each of the four bicycle clubs.
