Cyclists and boaters may find a new pit stop at Birdland Marina next spring.
A group of local businessmen wants to open Captain Roy’s at Birdland’s Landing. It would feature a bar and patio, a permanent food truck, a stage for musical acts and a store where people could buy beer and snacks.
The Des Moines City Council is expected to vote in the next month on whether to lease a building at the marina to the business.
The marina is on the Des Moines River north of downtown. It sits next to the Neal Smith Trail, which sees more than 300,000 cyclists a year, according to Des Moines Parkand Recreation Department surveys.
