The Plymouth County Sheriff wants your help to track down the driver of a semi-trailer that hit a bicyclist.

53-year-old Rudy Folkerts, of Orange City, was riding along County Road C16, east of County Road K64, when he was hit Wednesday morning. Folkerts remembers seeing the semi-trailer coming up.

He says he hugged the white line but the driver never moved over, despite a lack of any other traffic in the area. The trailer clipped Folkerts, and he fell off his bike. But, the driver kept going.

Folkerts says he's okay aside from a 13-inch gash on his left arm that had to be stitched closed. Initially he was angry, but says he's fortunate to walk away, and isn't as concerned if the driver is charged. "I would really just love to know who it is and meet the person and talk and say 'what was going on' or 'what were you thinking?' and try and help this person if it was intentional," Folkerts told KTIV. "[I] want to help this driver understand that we can share the road, it's possible.

Folkerts shared his story hoping more drivers will be more aware of bicyclists on the road. A cattle trailer is the main identifying feature Folkerts remembers of the semi.

If you have any information on the semi or driver, call the Plymouth County Sheriff at 712-546-8191.
