The city of Zearing is one step closer to having a recreation trail crossing through the city following a vote by the Story County Conservation Board to approve a grant application that may lead to additional funds for the project.

The Praeri Rail Trail is a 10.5 mile recreational trail that runs from Roland through McCallsburg to U.S. Highway 65, just west of Zearing. The board previously approved a project to create a 1.75 mile extension of the Praeri Rail Trail, which would pass through Zearing and connect with the Dakins Lake trail. This would be the first trail of its kind to pass through Zearing. On Tuesday, the board approved an application for a grant to help fund the trail’s extension.
