The planning committee for the second annual GranGable Powered by Scheels has announced this year’s route.

This mass participation bike ride will be during FRY fest weekend, Aug. 31, the morning after the Hawkeyes open their home football season against the University of Northern Iowa. It will start at 7 a.m. Aug. 31 at the Park Lodge at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area in Iowa City, ending in the same place.

The 100-mile route will head south to Hills and west toward Kalona and Wellman before heading to South English, north to North English, then to Parnell and back toward Hills and Iowa City to finish.

The 60- and 25-mile routes will turn back at Wellman and Sharon Center Road. Riders will cruise along rural Iowa scenery and will be able to break at rest stops along the way.

Named after coach Dan Gable, the ride is a collaboration between the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Iowa Bicycle Coalition and RAGBRAI. Proceeds benefit the Iowa Bicycle Coalition and Hawkeye Wrestling Club.

You might want to change the start location for the GranGable event. It is actually the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area. People might get confused if you leave it as Recreation Center. The Recreation Center is Downtown and is named after Robert A. Lee (Terry's predacessor at the Rec Center.)
