A reminder that some Story County Conservation areas were heavily damaged by the flooding earlier this month.

The Heart of Iowa Nature Trail and the Praire Rail Trail have many limestone areas that have been washed out.

While the trails are not closed to all visitors, bicyclists will find the areas difficult to traverse.

Here is a map that Special Projects Ranger Carol Williams made, showing the damaged areas on the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail.

I rode from Collins to Cambridge and back Thursday (13-Jun) evening. The equestrian portion of the trail can be used in the bad spots. Gives the cyclists a chance to get one over on the equestrians - at least bicycles don't damage the surface or leave foreign objects ;)
