Des Moines Because of attendance at a conference of bicycle coops and collectives in the twin cities this weekend by board members and our shop manager, the des moines bike kollective needs YOUR help this weekend. In particular Friday and Saturday. We're again asking for help on two collective-related needs:
  1. Shop hours: Kent Newman, Andrew Hinkley, and Carl Voss will be in Minneapolis Aug. 27-29 for the conference among community bike projects. We will need someone to keep the shop open:
    • Thursday 1-4 p.m. [note: already covered, thanks to me for a while and tim goldman]
    • Friday 1-4 p.m.
    • Saturday 9-4 p.m.
    Could someone please step forward and find volunteers to work these hours? I just bet you or someone you know will help. I looking forward to someone agreeing to take the responsibility to see we are staffed. For shop hours, volunteers need only be able to be there, answer the phone, and help walk-ins. If you can't answer a particular question, just say so, and get the info down [name, number, and question] and tell them we'll get back to them. Also, help accept donations and help with bikes going out. No wrenching is required, unless you can. But a person to be there is what we really need.
  2. East Coast: 6:30-8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. We will need volunteers to help with this event to benefit the Collective. Eve Shonts, Patty Guevara, and students will help with the finish. We will need 4 volunteers to help with the start. Also, we will be responsible for monitoring the intersections of East Walnut and East Ninth, East Seventh, East Fifth, and East Fourth. (DMPD will monitor East Sixth, start at capitol, and East Third). WE NEED FOUR or FIVE VOLUNTEERS:
