Mountain bike race Saturday in Ponca

The Sioux City Velo bicycle racing team will host the stop of the Nebraska Psycowpath race series Saturday in Ponca State Park, just north of Ponca, Neb. The race will begin at 11 a.m., with those in the beginners' category riding for two hours, while all other racers will compete in a four-hour race. The loop through the Missouri River bluffs is approximately five miles, and riders are scored on how many laps they complete in the timeframe. Prize money will be awarded in male and female categories. The eight-race Psycowpath series runs through August. The Ponca race will be the fifth in the series, following the last race June 2 in Council Bluffs. Psycowpath also held a race in Ponca in 2006.
