Should Iowa adopt a recreation tax?

The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa kicks off Sunday, but what should Iowa do for bicycling the other 51 weeks of the year? In Missouri, a portion of a cent of a statewide sales tax is dedicated to recreation and conservation. That’s made a huge difference for bicycle trails and other amenities, providing funding to build trails, restore landmarks, purchase land and maintain infrastructure. Should Iowa adopt such a tax?
