The 2nd Annual Mid-America Cross Cup begins this Saturday, October 1 in Des Moines, IA with two races scheduled for the weekend. Marc Hollander and the Cross Mafia have two fantastic events planned to kick-off the six race series, which will include events in Des Moines, Omaha, Leavenworth and the series finale in Kansas City. The Cross Out Crohn's Disease 2005 presented by the Des Moines Cyclocross Mafia & All9yards.com/Ralph Henderson Real Estate starts with the Union Park race on Saturday. Situated in Des Moines' historic Union Park neighborhood is a racer favorite course. Elements in this wide-open, mostly flat park include a 700-meter circular drive and an off-camber hill taking riders into the Des Moines River valley that turns into a grueling run-up. Be prepared to be surprised by the challenging new course design for 2005! Spectators enjoy the open layout, so they can see much of the racing from one point! Course length: 1 to 1.5 miles per lap. Sunday's racing moves to Ewing Park in Des Moines. This park continues to be our most versatile venue – bring a wide range of gearing. Elements in this large park include gravel access roads, tree-lined rollers and a huge green hill that is great for uphill (or downhill!) switchbacks. Again, spectators enjoy the open layout of the course so they can see much of the racing from one point! Course length: 1 to 1.5 miles per lap.
