Mother Nature piled onto RAGBRAI Friday after a challenging week, as a severe thunderstorm forced campers in the overnight town of Coralville to take shelter in municipal buildings and schools and forced the cancellation of the night's free concert by band Bush.
A Coralville police officer took the stage about 8:20 p.m. as RAGBRAI riders and community members awaited the start of the show and told them to take shelter from the approaching storm. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning, saying the storm would bring 60-90 mph winds, hail and heavy rain.
