The granGABLE powered by Scheels is a mass-participation cycling event that combines all that is Hawkeye with good health, exercise, and a commitment to excellence. Nobody embodies this more than legendary athlete and coach, Dan Gable. Through an incredible partnership between Coach Gable, the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, and RAGBRAI (yes, the experts at RAGBRAI), the ride has emerged as a premier fondo in Iowa!

Ride with cyclists from all over the Hawkeye state and beyond on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Choose from the inaugural 55 mile Gable Gravel Grinder, 60 mile or challenge yourself by training like Gable and riding 100 miles! All gravel and century finishers will earn the exclusive and highly sought after granGABLE completion medal. Registration is now open and specific details on the route, jersey design and other 2017 merchandise will be announced in the upcoming months.So save the date andget to training so you can “pedal for the medal.”

ROUTE

The granGABLE fondo is designed for cyclists of all ages and abilities. For our 5th year in 2017, we will host a 60 (Silver) and 100 (Gold) mile route throughout cities of Johnson County a la “Tour of Johnson County”. Also new for 2047 is a 55 mile gravel-grinder that follows the scenic country back roads through Johnson, Washington, Keokuk and Iowa Counties! The routes will begin at Terry Trueblood Lodge and they all end at the 2017 after-party location – Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City. Routes are subject to change. View Route Info.

2017 GOLD ROUTE

Pedal for the Medal! Train like Gable and tackle the personal challenge of riding a bike 100 miles. This year’s route takes you south of Iowa City through Hills and Riverside and then through the beautiful countryside of Washington County. Head north twoard Wellman and Joetown/Amish before turning west toward North English, named after the English River. The route heads back east through the towns of Parnell and “blink and you’ll miss it” Windham before making the journey home on Rohret Drive. Finish the ride with a cold beer at our after-party celebration at the new Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City. View Route.

2017 SILVER ROUTE

Ever wanted to experience a typical RAGBRAI day? This 60 mile trek through Johnson, Washington, Keokuk and Iowa Counties will give you the chance. This year’s route takes you through the towns of Hills, Riverside, an Wellman before ending at the 2017 after-party location – Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City. View Route.

2017 Gravel Grinder

Ready for a new challenge? The 55 mile Gable Gravel Grinder was made for you. It follows scenic country back roads through Johnson, Washington, Keokuk and Iowa Counties. Jump on your bike and head south through hills, stopping along the way in Riverside, Joetown/Amish, and Cosgrove before joining the other routes at Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City for an after party celebration. CUE CARDS

Cue cards will be available at packet pickup and will list the turn-by-turn route, elevation, rest stop mileage, and rest stop closing times. There will also be an emergency number you can call if you break down or need assistance.

GEAR

The gear is almost as cool as the ride! The 2017 ride will give riders the option of a swag package or simple service pass for both the Gold and Silver routes.
