Description

Trail Ride

Distance - 16 or more

The Heart of Iowa Nature Trail extends from the High Trestle Trail in Slater east to Melbourne, Iowa. It is currently unpaved, and quite unfriendly to the bicycles that most folks ride. Paving this trail would further the connection of central Iowa communities by bicycle, adding to possibilities for recreation and exercise as well as helping to spur economic activity, as we have witnessed in other communities with paved trails.

Ride from Slater east to Cambridge, and beyond if you like, and then back to Slater. The ride will be on the road, as much of the trail will likely be thawing and soft. Ride the trail if you like (attention FAT bikes), but don't make ruts.

Distance from Slater to Cambridge is about 8 miles, so 16 round trip unless you ride more.

The ride is free will, though with a $10 donation to the Story County Conservation HOINT Trust you will receive an event sticker.

Invite your friends. Average high is 54 degrees for March 28th. Bring a fat bike or bring a skinny bike, but you are invited to visit the communities of southern Story County and let them know about the social and economic benefits of a paved Heart of Iowa Nature Trail!
