We all rode “Mrs. Wince’s Rollover” both directions. Val, Shelly, Amy, Michele, Kristin, Zoe, and me. It was awesome. We rode a bunch of other things, too. Then we split up and did some speed work. Thank you to everyone who came out!

Description

Mountain Biking

Distance - 6–12 miles

General Information

Every Wednesday evening this summer, Cheryl and Katherine are hosting a weekly ride for women who want to learn how to mountain bike, want to get better at mountain biking, want to explore new trails, want to practice for mountain bike races, or just want to ride with other women.

All skill levels are encouraged to come ride! You just need a mountain bike,* a helmet, and a desire to have fun. Beginner through expert, we will break into multiple groups as appropriate.

We will make sure no one gets lost and everyone has support to try new things, and we’ll offer tips and instruction along the way.

We plan to meet at a variety of local (DSM area) trails to get lots of experience. Keep checking Facebook and the "Information Specific to this Date" section below for updates. Locations may change due to weather and trail conditions.

* Except at Sycamore, where any bike will do.

Schedule

  • #18 – July 30: Center Trails: Denman Woods
  • #19 – August 6: Center Trails: Denman Woods
  • #20 – August 13: Sycamore Trail

  • #23 – September 3: Center Trails: Hillside & Roller Coaster

Note: The next Iowa mountain bike race is Sunday, August 17 at George Wyth State Park in Waterloo. The trail is comparable to Denman Woods and Sycamore Trail. The race has options for beginner, sport, and expert level riders. We encourage you to try it.

Information Specific to this Date

Watch here for updates specific to Women’s Weekly Wednesday Mountain Bike Ride (WWWMBR) week #20 — August 13, 2014, 5:30 p.m.

Meeting Location: We will meet in the gravel lot on the south side of 66th Avenue. It is west of the river and east of the Johnston soccer fields. If you click the "MAP" link below the "Event Start Address," you will see it.

Road Construction: NW Beaver is closed for construction on the stretch from NW Johnston Dr up to NW 62nd. If you would normally come up on Beaver, take Merle Hay to NW 62nd, take that to Beaver, and then go north on Beaver to NW 66th.

What Bike to Bring: Sycamore Trail is the easiest trail around—a perfect place to try it out! You can ride this trail on a mountain bike, hybrid, cross bike, cruiser, bmx bike, whatever you have lying around (anything but the really skinny road tires).
