Description

Cyclocross

Distance - This is a timed event

Oakley "Night Cap" Cross

PLEASE join us for a "Night Cap" at Central Iowa's newest bike-friendly bar/restaurant - Mullet's! Oakley "Night Cap" Cross is as unique to the Central Iowa Cyclocross Series as it is to bike racing in general!

The race, sponsored by Oakley, is nestled only a couple of minutes from downtown Des Moines at Mullet's on some great under-utilized riverfront property! There is a GREAT view of the Des Moines skyline from their two patios and elevated deck which will also be a great vantage point for watching the races or watch from below and spectate literally inches away from the race course! Read Metromix's review of Mullet's.

WHAT IF

  • What If there was a full-fledged NIGHT Cyclocross race was happening at a bar called Mullets right on the Des Moines river over looking the city skyline on Friday Oct 15th?
  • What if the race course was lit up by light towers?
  • What If there was a kick-ass band playing outside under the lights in the middle of the race course while the cyclocross race was going on?
  • What If the bar had a two level patio for perfect views of the cyclocross race, the band and the Des Moines skyline?
  • What If Oakley and Miller Lite banners lined the race course and the patios?
  • What If the racers raced within 2 feet of the patio for optimal heckling distance?
  • What If crowds gathered for multiple reasons that night; the band, the party, the races?
  • What If Mullet's were offering sweet beer specials and pizza by the slice all night long?
  • What If almost every spectator had a cowbell?
  • What If BIKEIOWA.com was promoting an exhibition event like this?
All the "What Ifs" are TRUE! We are calling it "Oakley Night Cap Cross"! BE THERE!

SUPER SPECTATOR FRIENDLY!!

Watch the race from one of Mullet's two patios, including an elevated deck that offers an amazing view of the Des Moines River and Principal Park as there will be action everywhere! There is seating inside. The beer is cold and the food is Great! Stop down after work, ride your bike there and stay for the cross races!

THE BAND

Oh yeah! What if there was a band playing outside while the races were going on??? Oh HELL yeah! That is a true statement! We are super stoked to announce The Workshy as the official band for the night! The Workshy is a five piece band from Ames, Iowa that is getting known for their incredibly energetic live shows, and lively musicianship. They played Main Stage at 80/35 Festival and have invoked a pretty solid following within the Iowa music scene.

The band is presented by Miller Lite & Mullets!

Workshy is playing!

WIN A FREE BIKE

Night Cap Cross is part of the Central Iowa Cyclocross Series (Powered by Scheels). The bike will be awarded at the Awards Ceremony after Spooky Cross on Oct 31st. You need not be present to win.

THE LIGHTS

Yes, we will be racing in the dark, but the course will be LIT UP with light towers. It won't be as bright as daylight, but it will be enough to get your around the course! Remeber RAD stands for Race After Dark! Here is a video of Cross Vegas 2010. No, our race won't be near this lit up, but then again, we ain't racing with the pros either!

The course lighting is sponsored by Miller Lite
